Heyden Cottage

Heyden Cottage stands at the end of its own private, uneven drive in Bratton, on the edge of a large wood in Exmoor National Park. Minehead is about one and a half miles away. Most windows look across moorland, and there are walks and mountain bike trails from the door. Outside, a courtyard has a table and chairs, with woodland and an orchard beyond.

The large kitchen with a dining table and a sofa has a woodburning stove, and the separate sitting room has an open fire. There is no TV at the cottage. The kitchen has a microwave, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. Upstairs are three bedrooms: a king-size, a twin and a single, plus a bathroom with a separate shower. A downstairs shower room and WC are also provided. Central heating, fuel and power, bed linen and towels are included in the rent, and a cot is available on request.

A few rural points affect a stay. The water comes from a private supply that is tested regularly, there is no outside lighting so a torch is recommended, and the WiFi is intermittent. Off-road parking takes five cars. Two well-behaved dogs are welcome, smoking is not allowed, and a good-housekeeping bond is payable. Short breaks are not offered, and some trees around the grounds will be thinned. A pub is less than a mile from the property. It suits a family or group of friends with dogs who want moorland walking and a stove-warmed kitchen more than a television.
