Briar Orchard Annex

Briar Orchard Annex is a one-bedroom cottage in the rural hamlet of Ammerham, near Winsham and close to the borders with Devon and Dorset. Chard is within 4 miles and Crewkerne within 7; Winsham itself, with a general store and a pub called The Bell Inn, is 0.7 miles. The cottage is believed to have once belonged to the Forde Abbey estate.

The living and dining room is built around a woodburning stove, and a starter pack for it comes with the rent along with fuel and power. The kitchen has an electric oven, a microwave, a fridge with an ice box, a dishwasher and a washer/dryer. Upstairs the king-size bedroom has long views over the countryside and the walk-in shower room is on the same floor. The front garden is not enclosed and has a lawn, a patio and a bistro table and chairs. At the back the owner keeps chickens and a small flock of Herdwick sheep.

There is no parking space at the cottage; cars go in the quiet lane alongside. Bookings are weekly only and check-in is on Fridays, from 4pm, with check-out by 10am. A good-housekeeping bond is payable. Pets and smoking are not allowed. Bed linen and towels are included, and the cottage has a Smart TV and WiFi.

It suits a couple who want a week of walks along local bridleways, with Forde Abbey and the Jurassic Coast at Lyme Regis, about 10 miles away, for days out.
