Alice Cottage

Alice Cottage is a detached, thatched cottage about a mile from Minehead, on a tiny lane next to a ford that leads on to Bratton. Heather hills and woodland surround it, and a path over a small bridge leads to the back door, which steps down into the kitchen. Another step takes you down into the sitting room, which has a woodburning stove and a dining area.

The cottage sleeps three in two ground-floor bedrooms: a king-size double with ancient curved walls and stained glass windows, and a single. The bathroom has a bath under the eaves and is three steps down from the bedrooms. There is also a lobby and an outside WC with a basin. Central heating, fuel and power, bed linen and towels are all included in the rent, and the kitchen has a microwave, fridge-freezer, washing machine and dishwasher, with a smart TV and WiFi.

At the back is a secluded enclosed garden with a fenced pond, where you can eat outdoors. Off-road parking takes two cars, and the property has no outside lighting, so bring a torch. Up to three well-behaved dogs are welcome, with an extra charge for two or more. Short breaks are not offered, smoking is not allowed, the cottage is not suitable for guests with mobility issues, and a good-housekeeping bond is payable. With several steps between rooms, it suits a couple or a small family with dogs who are comfortable moving around a cottage with low, old character.
