Tucked Away Hut

Tucked Away Hut is a hand-built shepherd's hut for two on a former farm in the Mendip Hills, 4.5 miles from Wells. Only one other hut stands on the site, 150 metres away, and the view runs across open countryside towards Glastonbury Tor.

Inside, a double bed stretches wall to wall at one end of the open-plan room, with storage beneath it, a bookshelf above and a bedside niche. The kitchenette has a two-ring gas hob, a sink and a small fridge with an ice compartment. The en-suite shower room has a flushing WC. A wood burner heats the hut, with logs supplied, and a welcome pack and a DAB radio are included. Steps lead up to the front door.

The hut runs mainly on solar power at 12 volts, so it has USB charging points for phones, tablets and laptops but no three-pin sockets. There is no Wi-Fi. A three-pin socket in a waterproof casing can charge a car if needed: bring your own lead and pay the owner a fee before arrival. The water supply is private.

The private field in front has a gravelled area with a wood-fired hot tub, a pizza oven, a fire pit, a small gas barbecue and dining furniture, plus a seating arbour. Parking is private, for one car. The shop is 3 miles away, the pub 1.5 miles and the nearest beach 22 miles. Dogs are not allowed. Arrival is from 16:00 and departure before 10:00.

It suits a couple who want a secluded, solar-powered stay with a private hot tub.
