The Stables - Beer Mill Farm

The Stables is a single-level conversion on Beer Mill Farm at Beercrocombe, in the countryside near Taunton and not far from Ilminster, and it sits next to the farmhouse. The farm dates back over 350 years, and this building was once a corn mill driven by the River Fivehead, which still runs through the land. Inside there are high ceilings, exposed beams and sloping eaves, with underfloor heating fed by oil.

It sleeps four in two bedrooms: a king-size and a twin with single beds. Check the access before booking, because the king-size room is reached either through the twin room up a small step or from an exterior door. The one bathroom has a bath, a separate shower and a WC. The kitchen has an electric oven and hob, a fridge/freezer, a dishwasher, a microwave and a breakfast bar, and the living area has a Smart TV and full fibre internet. A highchair is available.

This is a working farm with livestock, horses and the farm's own two lively, friendly dogs. Guests may meet the animals and pet the lambs by arrangement, and can buy home-reared meat, eggs and other produce. A local milkman can deliver essentials if you place an order with your booking. Outside there is a seating area and a barbecue on request, plus a river on the property and guest access to a historic disused canal. Parking is off-road and ample. The shop is 4 miles away and the pub 1.5 miles.

One dog is allowed, with additional charges. Smoking or vaping is not tolerated in the building or anywhere on the grounds. Arrival is from 3pm and departure before 10am. It suits a family with a child who is keen on animals, or two couples travelling together.
