Primrose

Primrose is one of two lodges at Wambrook Farm Retreats in Higher Wambrook, 2.1 miles from Chard and inside the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It sits in a small nature reserve of woodland and lakes, and Ilminster is a further town in this part of Somerset.

Floor-to-ceiling windows run through the lodge, and the living area is open plan: a corner sofa faces a Smart TV and a wood burning stove, beside the kitchen and dining area. The kitchen has an electric oven, an induction hob, a microwave, a fridge with icebox and a dishwasher. Both bedrooms, a double and a twin, have en-suite shower rooms with walk-in showers, and everything is on one level. Outside, a private terrace holds the hot tub.

Fuel, power and a starter pack for the stove come with the rent, with extra boxes of wood on sale on site, and bed linen and towels are included. The grounds are south-facing and not enclosed, with lawn, woodland and communal seating, plus a communal wood-fired pizza oven. There is a small lake on site, so children must be supervised at all times. Two cars can park off the road. Pets are not allowed and the lodge is no smoking; a Good Housekeeping bond is payable.

Stays between 19 January and 19 February need a minimum of two nights. The lodge can be booked together with its neighbour, Foxglove, and the two lodges together sleep eight.

It suits a couple or two couples who want a hot tub and a woodburner without any stairs.
