Countryside cottage for 4 with pub 0.1 miles away, no pets

The Retreat is a countryside cottage a little outside Wellington, with open rural views. The pub is only 0.1 miles away, the shop 1.2 miles and the river 1.3 miles.

The ground plan is simple: a kitchen/diner with an electric oven and hob, a microwave, a fridge, a freezer, a kettle and a toaster, and a separate sitting room with a Smart TV. Two bedrooms, one double and one twin, share a single bathroom with a bath and a handheld shower. Oil-fired central heating runs the house, and fuel and power are included in the rent along with bed linen and towels. WiFi is provided.

The garden has a bench, but it lies across the road from the cottage, so anyone travelling with children needs to supervise them there. Off-road parking takes one car only, which matters if two couples are arriving separately. A good-housekeeping bond is payable, and neither pets nor smoking are allowed.

Within reach are the Wellington Monument in the Blackdown Hills, the Museum of Somerset at Taunton Castle and the market town of Wiveliscombe. Taunton also has riverside walks along the Tone, and the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has miles of trails.

It suits two couples or a small family who share one car and want a straightforward base.
