The Flat House

The Flat House takes up the first floor of a building in Taunton that used to be a music shop. You park roadside, open the door and climb a staircase to reach it. Once inside, everything is on one level: a hallway, a bathroom big enough to hold a bath with a shower over it, two bedrooms, the kitchen and a living and dining room that gets light from three directions.

Four people can sleep here. The double bedroom is large, and the twin has an original built-in wardrobe. The kitchen has wooden worktops, an electric oven, a gas hob, a microwave, a fridge, a kettle and a toaster. Gas central heating, a TV and WiFi are included, and so are fuel, power, bed linen and towels.

Outside, the main extra is a huge sun terrace. A shop is 0.5 miles away, a pub 0.8 miles and the river 0.7 miles, so a short outing on foot is realistic. The staircase is the one thing to weigh up before booking, since the flat cannot be reached without it.

One well-behaved pet is welcome. The flat is no smoking, and a good housekeeping bond is payable. It suits two couples or friends sharing, or a small family who are happy with stairs and want a terrace. Exmoor National Park lies within an hour's journey.
