Castle House

Castle House is part of the 12th-century Taunton Castle, set in the grounds of the Museum of Somerset in the centre of Taunton. Its windows look over the castle courtyard and the former keep, now the Castle Hotel's Keep Garden.

The house sleeps 7 over the first and second floors, reached by stairs from a ground-level entrance. On the first floor are the Tudor Room sitting room, a double bedroom, a single bedroom, a shower room, a dining room and the kitchen. The second floor holds a four-poster bedroom, a twin and a bathroom with a roll-top bath. There is also a separate WC.

The kitchen has an oven, gas hob, dishwasher and washer/dryer. WiFi, a TV with a DVD player and a selection of books, games and DVDs are provided, and a travel cot and highchair are available. Gas central heating is used, and fuel, power, bed linen and towels are included in the rent. An enclosed outdoor area has furniture.

Parking for one vehicle is in the adjoining Castle Hotel car park; any extra vehicles go in nearby council car parks or pay a nightly fee to the hotel on arrival. Expect uneven floors and stairs, some evening noise from the town centre, and no Sunday check-out. Pets are not accepted and smoking is not allowed. It suits a family or group of up to seven who want a historic stay within walking distance of the town.
