Anchorage

Anchorage is a Victorian fisherman's cottage right beside the beach in Watchet, with the shops, restaurants and pubs about 100 yards off and the harbour marina close by. From the pavement you enter the main cottage: a sitting room with a dining area, then a kitchen.

Three levels hold the bedrooms. A king-size double is on the first floor next to the bathroom, which has a bath, a shower over it, a WC and two basins. The twin and the single sit under the eaves on the top floor, so expect steep stairs between them. Together they sleep 5. Out in the partly covered, enclosed courtyard there is a second shower with a WC, and the courtyard also has the stairs to the old net-drying loft, now a seating area with a TV, a PlayStation 3 and Bristol Channel views.

Stable doors from the courtyard lead to a footpath shared with the neighbour and to the cottage's own terrace above the beach, where there is a picnic table. The kitchen has a microwave, a fridge-freezer, a washer-dryer and a dishwasher, and WiFi is included. Fuel, power, bed linen and towels are in the rent, and a cot and highchair are available on request.

There is no parking at the cottage: you park in a public car park nearby, and a permit is available. Pets and smoking are not allowed, and a good housekeeping bond is payable.

It suits a family, or up to five friends, who like a terrace at the water's edge and can manage steep stairs.
