Under the Oak Tree Shepherd's Hut

Under the Oak Tree Shepherd's Hut sits in open countryside outside Congresbury, a village not far from Hewish. It is a single-storey hut for two, laid out as one studio room: a king-size bed, a kitchenette, a dining table for two and a sitting area with a TV and a woodburning stove. Bed linen and towels are included, and large ceiling fans are provided for warm nights.

The kitchenette has a hob, a fridge/freezer, an air fryer and a coffee maker. The shower room next to it has a walk-in shower, a basin, a heated towel rail and a WC. Outside, private decking looks onto a lawn with furniture and sun loungers, and a tree swing hangs from a 100-year-old oak. Rabbits, pheasants and deer are sometimes seen in the field.

Some conditions apply. There are steps up to the hut, so it is not suited to anyone who cannot manage them. One small, well-behaved dog is welcome; guests need to confirm they are bringing only one, and the dog must stay on a lead outside. Smoking is not allowed, and a good-housekeeping bond is payable.

The shop is 0.8 miles away, the nearest pub 1 mile and the lake 1.3 miles. It suits a couple, or a solo traveller with a small dog, who want one compact room and outdoor space and are comfortable with a few steps at the door.
