Three-bedroom house on a bridleway with three woodburners

Tuxwell Lodge sits on a bridleway, a former carriage road, in the countryside near the village of Spaxton, with no near neighbours. The track leads straight onto the Quantock hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so walks and cycling start from the door. It is in the Quantocks, near Crowcombe.

The house sleeps five. Upstairs there are three bedrooms, two doubles and a single, served by a family bathroom with a bath, shower over, basin and WC. A ground-floor shower room adds a walk-in shower, basin and WC with underfloor heating. A conservatory-style sitting room has a lantern roof light and a woodburning stove, a second sitting room has another, and the farmhouse kitchen and dining area has a third, beside an Aga that is non-functional apart from its induction hob. Gas and induction hobs, an air fryer and a dishwasher are in the kitchen; the utility area has a washing machine and flagstone floor.

Guests have a rear garden and a patio. A private driveway takes a maximum of two cars, parked strictly on the right-hand side. There is bike storage in a wooden hut, but only by prior arrangement with the owner. One well-behaved dog is welcome; a glazed-door utility area is useful after a walk. Smoking is not allowed, stag and hen parties are not accepted, and the bedroom fireplaces are decorative, so please do not light them.

Check-in is at 3pm. Bookings need 72 hours' notice, and bookings are by enquiry only, subject to owner approval. Fuel, power and a starter pack for the stoves, bed linen and towels are included. A good-housekeeping bond is payable, and extra logs can be bought through an honesty box. Shop 2.4 miles, pub 1.4 miles. It suits a family or small group who want woodburners and hill walks from the door.
