Johnstone Retreat
Former townhouse kitchen turned couple's retreat in Bath
Access to Johnstone Retreat is by a steep set of 17 stone steps, then through a door into a loggia, with three more steps up into the main apartment. The courtyard and loggia sit three steps lower than the apartment, without a handrail. For that reason it is not recommended for children or for anyone with mobility issues.
Inside is a one-bedroom apartment made from the old kitchens of a Georgian townhouse on Johnstone Street in Bath, where the original fireplaces can still be seen. It has a private entrance and sleeps two. The bed, a sofa, a dining table with chairs and a Smart TV share one main room. The kitchen is compact, with a microwave/oven, two-ring induction hob, small dishwasher, fridge with an icebox, a table with stools and a radio. In the bathroom a shower sits over the roll-top bath, and a washing machine is housed in a former fireplace. A welcome pack and Wi-Fi are provided.
Pubs, restaurants and shops start 100 metres away, and Bath Spa train and coach stations are a 10-minute level walk. Parking is in public car parks: the nearest short-stay car park is the Podium at 300 metres and the long-stay car park at Charlotte Street is 1.1 km away. It suits a couple who are comfortable with stairs and want a central base. Dogs are not allowed, and arrival is from 4pm.
