Exmoor Farm Cottages - Swallows Nest

Exmoor National Park is on the doorstep of Swallows Nest, a one-bedroom cottage for two that suits couples who want to get away from it all, especially out of season. It stands beside the yard of the owner's small farm at Wheddon Cross. Dunster, the Valley of the Rocks, Lynton and Lynmouth and the West Somerset Steam Railway are among the points of interest nearby.

The ground floor is one open-plan room. A lounge with a wood burner, the first basket of logs included, and a TV and DVD player is divided by a breakfast bar from a kitchen with an electric oven and hob, a microwave and a fridge with an ice compartment. A small cloakroom takes coats and muddy boots. Upstairs is the only bedroom, with a super king-size bed that can be set up as a twin on request, and the shower room with WC is on the same floor.

Going out through the cloakroom brings you to an enclosed decked area with seating and open views down the valley. Nine steps lead down from the deck to a small private garden, and a dog kennel and run sits below the decking steps. One dog is allowed, with additional charges that may apply.

The farm has streams and ponds, so the cottage is not suitable for babies, infants or children under 16. The washing machine is in a shared utility room in a separate building, the water comes from a borehole, and there is off-road parking for one car. The shop and pub are 2 miles away. Changeover is on Monday or Friday, and on Friday only in September and October. Check-in is from 16:30 and check-out before 10:00. It suits a couple with a dog who want to walk straight out from the door.
