Brookside Cottage - Luxborough

Brookside Cottage stands in Luxborough, within Exmoor National Park and near Carhampton. A river runs the length of its garden, and that shapes the booking: the cottage is not suitable for children under 5, because the water is not fenced off.

The restored cottage keeps its exposed beams, stone walls and an inglenook fireplace, and the living room has a wood burner with the first basket of logs provided. The kitchen has an electric oven, an induction hob, a microwave, a dishwasher, a fridge and a Bosch coffee machine, and a washing machine is on hand. Upstairs are a king-size bedroom and a twin. The one bathroom has a free-standing claw-foot bath and a separate shower, and a second WC sits apart from it.

The garden is lawned and enclosed at the front, side and rear, with dining furniture and a bench seat. Private parking takes two cars. CCTV covers the front garden, mainly to monitor river levels and for security when the cottage is empty. The pub is 400 metres away, while the nearest shop is 3.5 miles off.

Two dogs are allowed, with additional charges that may apply. Arrival is from 4pm and departure is before 10am. It suits two couples or a pair of adults with a dog or two who want a riverside garden and a pub 400 metres away rather than a beach.
