Shepton Mallet Carnival lights up the town on Wednesday 18 November 2026, with the procession starting at 7.30pm. It is the sixth night of the Somerset Guy Fawkes circuit, between Midsomer Norton on 16 November and Wells on 20 November. The committee does not charge to attend.
What happens
More than 100 entries take part, from single masqueraders dancing in the street to illuminated carts of up to 100 feet, some carrying up to 30,000 light bulbs. Carnival clubs from around the West Country build the carts, which enter as tableau, feature or comic and are pulled by decorated tractors.
Collectors work the streets during the evening, and all profits go to local charities and groups. The committee asks you to bring coins or notes.
