Haynes Motor Museum

Museums & Galleries

Haynes International Motor Museum at Sparkford: over 300 cars and motorcycles, a cafe and one stair-free entrance. Pet dogs stay outside the buildings.

A big motor museum in a small village

The Haynes International Motor Museum is at Sparkford, Somerset. The museum describes itself as the UK’s largest collection of cars and motorcycles, with more than 300 vehicles. Alongside the collection it runs exhibitions and enthusiast talks, and Turbo Tots sessions for children aged 2 to 5. The site also has a cafe, a museum shop and an outdoor play area.

Planning your visit

Tickets can be booked online, and booking ahead saves 10%. A standard ticket includes unlimited visits for a year, so one visit can turn into a year of returns. The museum offers a free carer ticket for any visitor who needs an essential companion. Opening hours are shown on the Haynes museum website, so check the day’s hours there before you leave.

Dogs

Pet dogs cannot go inside the museum buildings or the play area. They are welcome in outdoor spaces such as the car parks and outside Cafe 750. Assistance dogs are allowed in all internal and external areas.

Access

The museum says it has one main entrance, with no stairs and both single and double doors. Its accessibility page also lists designated blue badge parking bays close to the entrance, and says wheelchairs and mobility scooters can be borrowed during a visit. A sensory map can be downloaded in advance. Call the museum on 01963 440804 before you travel to confirm availability.

How long to allow

With more than 300 vehicles, talks, the cafe and the play area, build in slack rather than squeezing it between other stops. Picnics cannot be eaten in the cafe, but there is a picnic area by the outdoor play area. Baby changing is in Reception and within the museum. The museum’s own pages list current events, so check them for talks on the day.

Pair it with a day out elsewhere

The museum is an indoor day, which makes it useful when a wet forecast rules out Glastonbury Tor or the cliff walks at Cheddar Gorge.
