The Old Forge - Holton

The Old Forge is a 19th century detached former farmhouse at Holton, near Wincanton. It sits at one end of a two-acre garden, in open countryside midway between the villages of Maperton and Holton. The pub is half a mile away and the nearest shop is 3 miles off.

A stone-flagged hall leads to the lounge, which has a Smart TV and an open fire, and to a dining room with a flagstone floor and a large table. The kitchen/breakfast room under a vaulted oak beam ceiling has an electric AGA with four ovens, a microwave, a coffee machine, a fridge, a freezer and a dishwasher. A big utility room adds a second dishwasher, a washing machine and a tumble dryer, and a snug has its own Smart TV. There is a step up into the lounge, and another step down from the dining room into the kitchen.

Upstairs are five bedrooms: two king-size rooms, two doubles and a twin. Both king-size rooms have en-suite shower rooms, and the family bathroom has a shower over the bath. Two travel cots and two highchairs are available.

Outside, the enclosed garden is mostly gently sloping lawn with borders, plus a former vegetable garden on a higher terrace. The patio has seating and a charcoal barbecue. Off-road parking at the front is ample. Two dogs are allowed, and additional charges may apply. Check-in is from 16:00. The house can also be booked together with the Plum Tree Retreat annex, and it suits a large family or two families sharing.
