Castle of Comfort

Castle of Comfort is a converted Grade II listed country house hotel dating from the 1600s, in the Quantock Hills, with Crowcombe nearby. It sleeps fifteen across eight bedrooms. Nether Stowey, with its shops and pubs, is 1.5 miles away and the beach is 4 miles. The 51-mile Coleridge Way starts in the village.

Downstairs, a lounge holds the original hotel bar and a huge Smart TV, and the dining room seats 17. The kitchen has two double electric ovens, two microwaves, two dishwashers, two fridge/freezers, a coffee machine, a washing machine and a tumble dryer; the Aga is not in use. Professional catering can be pre-booked and paid for directly with the owners. The eight bedrooms are two king-size, four doubles, one twin and one single, with a double and a twin on the ground floor. Every room has a Smart TV, and there are nine bathrooms in total plus two separate WCs.

The private enclosed garden has a patio, seating and a charcoal BBQ; a few steps lead to it from the rear, and a few more lead on to the pool. The heated outdoor pool is seasonal and opens from June. The hot tub and a five-person sauna are available all year. Bring your own towels for the pool, hot tub and sauna. A detached cottage next door shares the 4.5-acre garden, which is not fully enclosed, and the games barn with table tennis, football table and a basketball game. Parking at the front is ample.

Up to three dogs are allowed, with additional charges possible. The house can be booked for functions, arranged with the owner, and alongside the neighbouring cottage for a bigger group. Check-in is from 5pm and departure before 10am. It suits a large family or a group of friends celebrating together.
